Wherever you are, the possession of a bright white smile makes you feel much better. Although straighter teeth are often healthier than crooked ones, it doesn’t matter so much if the latter don’t gleam because they can enhance the person’s character.

People with less than perfect teeth that are stained or show signs of dental decay tend not to get the same social acceptance as someone whose teeth are good. Practising good oral hygiene will help to keep teeth white but if you want a better shade of white there are other ways than just brushing.

Brushing, flossing and rinsing with a mouthwash will certainly keep your mouth healthy but they do not always keep that gleaming smile.

Using a peroxide based solution to whiten teeth is popular with patients and dentists alike. There are several different variations on these techniques and they fall into two categories: home treatment or dental office treatment. All these methods will be effective but each has its pros and cons. Always consult your dentist or call your dental insurance plan provider if you are in any way unsure about dental treatments.

A perfect smile can be maintained in one of several ways.

Teeth whitening strips

Tray-based teeth whitening solutions

Paint-on teeth whitening

Professional teeth whitening treatment

Teeth whitening strips are the simplest form of improving your dental looks. According to Proctor and Gamble wearing whitening strips coated with 6% hydrogen peroxide for two weeks will increase the whiteness of the teeth by a factor of 10%.

A good thing about whitening strips is that you can wear them all day but without other people being able to see them. The disadvantage of whitening strips lies in the fact that by lying across the front of the teeth they often fail to reach between the teeth, places where there may be stains.

Most dentists prefer and employ the better choice of the tray-based whitening solution procedure. The tray is so shaped that one part fits around the upper teeth and the other around the lower teeth. In the tray is a bleaching gel that may continue to work for several hours.

Using a tray instead of white strips has the advantage of ensuring that the gel reaches areas that are not reached by whitening strips. Unfortunately the tray has to stay in the mouth for a minimum stipulated time – a distinct disadvantage. Times vary depending on the manufacturer.

Paint-on tooth whitening is another way of applying a peroxide solution onto the teeth. After applying the whitener to the teeth by brush the solution hardens into a thin film. The length of time the solution remains on the tooth varies between manufacturers. This length varies according to the manufacturer and may be anything from one hour to over-night. After the whitening solution has been on the teeth for the required time it is removed by toothbrush.

The advantage of paint-on whitening is that trays are not necessary and the solution reaches all parts of the tooth. Unfortunately this will not be successful if applied to any existing dental work.

Before attempting any self-applied treatment it is prudent to consult your dentist. To avoid possible damage to existing dental work such as fillings and veneers it is essential that the solutions be used correctly. A considerable amount of expense and treatment time may be involved if any of these solutions are used incorrectly.

Teeth whitening treatment done by a professional is often thought to be better than that carried out by oneself. The truth is that professional treatment and self-administered treatment both produce the same results over time. Time now becomes the most significant consideration. Whereas home treatment may take up two weeks, a dentist should be able to complete the treatment in one session.

Using a dentist has the obvious disadvantage of being expensive. If you do not have a comprehensive dental insurance policy which covers these sorts of treatments, the cost will be substantially more than buying over the counter products. The cost with dental insurance is not necessarily more than that incurred by self-treatment; it can be less. The advantage of being treated by a dentist is that the task can be done quickly. Seldom does a whitening session last for more than an hour. There is also the added advantage of the dentist giving your mouth a good check up at the same time, something you cannot do yourself.

An area of the tooth with its mineral content dissolved away, forming a cavity, is called a “tooth decay”. Studies show that tooth decay can occur on any surface of a tooth which is exposed to the oral cavity, but not the structures which are retained within the bone. Tooth decay can be difficult depending on your habits. Here are five ways to prevent such:

– Fluoride Therapy. Tooth decay can be prevented by topical or sytematical flouride therapy. Intake of tablets or drops is usually done for flouride supplementation. In areas where public water supplies are fluoridated, tablets or drops are rarely used.

– Brushing your teeth. Home is where the most important part of tooth care happens, as your Cincinnati dentist would say. Regular dental checkups and daily brushing and flossing are required to keep teeth healthy. Dentists would advice brushing three times a day to keep teeth strong and healthy.

– Regular checkups with your dentist. Consulting a professional is the most important thing to remember in keeping teeth and gums healthy. After studying for years, nobody is more knowledgeable about teeth than dentists. They know what to do and where to focus on your teeth.

– Dental sealant. The procedure involves covering a tooth or teeth with plastic material to help protect it against tooth decay and cavities. They are usually applied during a visit to the dental clinic.

– Dietary snacks. It is a good idea to limit sweet snacks as excessive use of sweets alters your blood sugar. If you avoid snacks, you may be depriving your body of nutrition from food. Protein-rich food are good alternatives.

Taking good care of teeth is critical especially for people who are very conscious with their appearance. Displaying the best white smile, we have to admit, can be one of our greatest features. Following each advice mentioned above is important for maintaining that perfect smile.

When dental health is the topic, I can see images of teeth running inside my mind. Nothing more than visions of teeth – healthy and not, then I started to realize, it is not just about teeth but the underlying tissues and bones. I have been missing a lot because I have focused myself on just caring for my teeth.

When we say dental health, it should be the entire oral cavity. It is not just caring for your pearly whites, you might be missing a lot, like me and my very little knowledge about it. I have learned through research that you may have really white teeth with the crowns unblemished but you can’t really tell if it is healthy. I have encountered once, a patient waiting in the dental reception sharing to me his story what terrible condition he has. I can see his teeth almost brilliant white and he told me he is totally caries-free. A portable oral irrigator can be useful when travelling.

So what could be the problem? It startled me when he actually pushed his incisors with his tongue and I saw the incisors literally moved into slanting position. And then it suddenly came to me, he has putrid breath too. I can see how sorry he is having overlooked his dental obligations because aside from time constraints, he thought his dental health is perfect. This is a really pitiful situation but I couldn’t tell him anything that could calm him, at this point when I am so unsure even of my own condition. An oral irrigator can help to fight / prevent gum disease

I tried to consult every search engine and it is surprising to find out that what could have gotten the case worse is improper oral hygiene practice. But of course there could be certain conditions that have aggravated the situation. It is funny how we have lived our lives with our oral cavity and how little do we know about it. Learn how to stop gum disease before it is too late.

There is an incredible misconception that you must have broken and crumbled teeth and receding gums as a consequence of aging. Is this really the truth?

I remember a coworker who broke a tooth while eating. The tooth split in half on some morsel of food that may or may not have been very hard. Even in the worse case scenario a piece of the tooth may have chipped, but for the tooth to split in half means there must have been some underlying weakness that allowed this to happen.

Our teeth are very important to us. We need them to eat – that is obvious. But we also need them to insure that our jaw does not deteriorate. You can lose bone mass when the jaw has no tooth to support. In addition, a lost tooth can cause your teeth to shift creating an uneven bite which in turn can cause uneven wear and tear on your teeth.

Therabreath makes a line of products that may be helpful to your dental health.

Oramd is an essential oil blend that is used as toothpaste.

The Hydro Floss is an oral irrigator – irrigators can help you in your efforts to reduce plaque build up between office visits

I will theorize for the rest of this article. I would speculate that my friend’s problem may have had two components. One would be nutritional and the other would be repetitive failure to maintain proper pH of the mouth.

Much depends on both – as I continue to speculate. You can imagine the teeth as being made of calcium and phosphate ions. When there is a more acidic environment those ions can be dissolved or ‘pulled’ right out of the enamel of your teeth, thereby weakening them. You could imagine that over time, this could be a problem.

Energy drinks, coffee drinks and fruit juices can all lower the pH of the environment in your mouth, making it more acidic. What if you consistently were to raise that pH back up after eating or drinking an acidic food or beverage?

Folks start to study dental health from an especially young age, when teeth first start to turn up. But despite such early awareness, many of us fail to maintain good dental health through their adult existence. Good dental health comprises brushing and flossing your teeth each day, and regular journeys to a dentist or dental hygienist too. Besides, people supplement their dental care with the utilization of products like mouthwash or sophisticated mouth care systems. You may keep it in mind the absence of satisfactory dental care practices will end up in cavities and gum illness.

It is mostly suggested that you employ a toothbrush with softer bristles in order to defend your gums. Some people like power brush systems that help break up plaque and bacteria in your mouth. But it takes more than brushing to keep your teeth healthy. Another steps need to be brought to be certain that people don’t lose their teeth as they become old.

To begin with, you must understand your own oral health wants, as your oral health relies on your diet, the type and quantity of spit in your mouth, your general health and your oral cleanliness routine. Try and follow a daily running order in talks with your dentist.

As fluoride reinforces developing teeth in youngsters and stops rot in adults, toothpastes and mouthwashes containing fluoride should be used. You should brush at least twice every day, if at all possible three times or after each meal. You must also floss at least 2 times each day. Brushing and flossing will remove plaque, a complicated mass of bacteria that consistently forms on your teeth.

Limit the consumption of nibbles and follow a healthy diet plan. Tobacco in any form will brace the risk of oral cancer and cause stains on your teeth.

It is quite amazing when you stop to consider all of the different ideas and notions about proper dental care. These seemingly conflicting theories leave the patient – or more accurately – the consumer, in a sea of bewilderment most of the time.

For instance, is fluoride in mouthwash and toothpaste good or bad? Many dental experts believe that toothpaste, mouthwash and even topical treatments of fluoride harden your teeth and are therefore good. Other researchers say that any fluoride containing product put in the mouth spikes blood fluoride levels. Fluoride apparently tends to accumulate in parts of the brain as well.

Research like that done by Dr. Phyllis J. Mullenix, PhD. clearly makes you question even small amounts of fluoride showing up in our drinking supply and food supply – as many foods are exposed to fluoridated water. She also discusses that when they wanted to study even lower doses of fluoride for extended periods of time, that her funding was cut.

There are even dentists who are against fluoride’s use in the human body for any reason. Confusing, isn’t it? Who do we listen too? I can’t answer that question definitively for you but here are some thoughts that I will share on this aspect of dental health.

I am personally against fluoridation of drinking water. Despite the arguments in favor of forced medication of our drinking supply, I think it is wrong to ‘force’ any medication on a population. This behavior effectively side steps each person’s right to choose. On the other hand, the choice of personal dental care products is just that: a choice. Each person as the right to choose whether he uses fluoridated rinse and toothpaste.

When it comes to adding fluoride to the drinking supply, many scientists and professionals are against the use of fluoride while many others are in support of it. When you have this kind of debate between scientists, isn’t it best to error on the side of caution? Follow the links below to learn more about what I think is useful on the topic of dental health.

According to recent studies, more than 40 million Americans suffer from TMJ or Temporomandibular joint dysfunction. But you don’t have to worry. Your dental doctor is doing everything to get the best remedies. There are even some solutions for teeth grinding that you can find on the Net. Even if a person has TMJ problems, he can find the best TMJ remedies in seconds through Internet access. That’s why you can say that you are fortunate that you have come across this inside information about TMJ and TMJ problems. There may be a lot of reasons why you should be very concerned about this and probably the best reason is you just can’t take anymore the unbearable pains that TMJ symptoms have brought upon you like back and neck pains and the ever-annoying clenching of teeth. Anybody in your society, young or old who has TMJ can finally learn how to stop teeth clenching the natural, safe and drug-free way and this method is a set of TMJ exercises that anyone can use anytime of the day.

What you need to do in order to get this is go online and then, find this book guide called “TMJ Help Program” which can be downloaded right away after you have made your payments. Now, the best part about this book guide is it explains in step by step of a natural TMJ treatment that you can use anytime you want and anywhere you want, even in your office or school or just about anywhere else. The instructions in the book are so readable and easy to understand and you can feel an improvement after using this book for just one day. But always remember, in order to make this more effective, you also need to be cooperative with the situation by not doing things that will make your TMJ problem get to its worst side. But in general, this is one book guide that is very effective.
